Measure the full operating area
A large sliding door should be measured as an operating system, not just as a piece of glass.
The installer needs to account for the width, height, handle clearance, mounting surface and the direction the door moves.
Decide whether view or privacy matters more
If preserving the daytime view is important, a more open or light-filtering treatment may be preferable.
If privacy or room darkening is more important, a more opaque fabric may be the better choice.
Think about how often the door is opened
A door used constantly for patio access needs a treatment that is easy to raise, lower or position.
This is one reason motorization can be especially useful on wide openings.
One wide shade or multiple sections
Depending on the opening and the selected product, the design may use one larger treatment or multiple aligned sections.
The best configuration depends on product limits, the door layout and how you want the shades to operate.
Outdoor openings are a different category
If the goal is to screen an exterior patio or terrace rather than cover an interior glass door, a zipper-screen system may be more appropriate.
Exterior systems have different structural and exposure requirements and should be specified separately.
